About

Gordon Wilson is an English poet and feature writer whose subject matter deals extensively with ideas of place and belonging.

The former teacher has two poetry publications, Grimsby Bound with Looking Back and Larkholme Pilgrim.

His work has been widely published locally and nationally in a range of poetry collections, newspapers and regional magazines. His poems have been broadcast on regional BBC radio and received commendations in both The Humber Mouth Festival and Fathom Writers Poetry Competitions.

His best known work, “Looking Back” was commissioned for the unveiling ceremony of the Grimsby fisherman’s memorial and went on to inspire composer Sarah Rodgers’ operatic piece In Your Shadow which was written for and performed by  international soprano, Alison Pearce.

His verse account of the experiences of C19th Grimsby fishing apprentices, Grimsby Bound, is regularly presented by The Grimsby Bound Crew on the local arts scene,  with song settings for ten of the poems composed and performed by local folk-rock band Merlin’s Keep.
